“Tom started volunteering with us in 2018 and quickly embraced all aspects of life at London Transport Museum. Over a period of months I worked with Tom, his Dad Mark and our Customer Services team to explore possibilities and trial a role. Tom was keen to get stuck in and was a real social butterfly, so with the support of our buddy volunteer Bill, Tom was welcoming visitors into the Museum in no time. Tom’s confidence quickly led on to him assisting visitors in other parts of the Museum, and working with other volunteer buddies.
Tom’s presence is always one of positivity and people often take the time to chat, whether it’s customers, staff or the Museum Director! Tom now volunteers with us regularly and has firmly become ‘one of the gang’ at the Museum, and has even started to use his life experience to further improve how the Museum supports people with disabilities.
I’m so pleased we have had the opportunity to work with Tom and embrace his passion for transport and his thirst for life. His willingness to triumph has been very humbling and I hope Tom will continue volunteering with us for many years to come.”
